Hatteras Fishing Report

Fishing News on Hatteras Island

Surrounded by water and in close proximity to the Gulf Stream, Hatteras Island emanates a life rich in fish culture. Some islanders fish for a living, some islanders fish for fun, some islanders sell fish in their restaurants and some islanders prepare bountiful fish-rich meals for their families. One thing is for sure, the various Hatteras Island fisheries have an impact on those who are blessed to call this place their home and we love sharing them with our friends and neighbors. While the docks are always abuzz with fishing action, sharing with you is exactly what we aim to do. Check out our fishing report below to stay tuned on what's being caught, what they're using to catch them and the fisheries that are ever-changing!

From Sea to Plate

One of the most exciting things about fishing is the catch itself. That glorifying moment when the hunt becomes luctrative and you're fighting nature's ancient battle of man vs. animal. One of the most of satisfying things about fishing is when your catch is sitting before you in the...

Fishing on the Stormy Petrel II

Our last couple of trips were Gulf Stream charters and we found good fishing. Bottom fishing has been as good as you want and there have still been some good days for mahi fishing. There have also been some catches of wahoo when the conditions have been favorable.

I am as surprised as can be.  I thought after this Blow we got that Fishing would turn to Garbage, but I was Pleasantly Surprised and Wrong.  Bak-Bar Ran the First Charter after the storm and Got a Citation Drum for my Good Friend Denny Brown from Pa, measured up at 43 inches.  There have been...

Fishing on the Stormy Petrel II

We’ve been mostly fishing half day charters near shore over the last few days on the Stormy Petrel II. Yesterday we found good Spanish Mackerel fishing up near the lighthouse, but prior to that we were focused on Bluefish out on the shoals or around the inlet. We had one offshore trip last week and trolling was slow that day, so we worked on bottom fishing. Wahoo are around and they should bite better in the weeks to come.

And thats the truth!!!!!!!!  Wahoo, BlackFin Tuna (Bigger and more than I have ever seen for this time of Year)  These are 15 Pound Class Fish that we are used to seeing around April May.  and there were Scattered Dolphin.  That's Pretty Much everything that Swims that you would want to eat this...

We are gonna lead with the Inshore because it has been such a struggle and they scored big time yesterday.  Citation Cobia, Blues, Drum of All Sizes.  Even a Speck was Caught yesterday,  the second one of the season that I have heard of.  Throw in a Few Grey Trout and they had a Banner Day on...
