Fishing News on Hatteras Island

Surrounded by water and in close proximity to the Gulf Stream, Hatteras Island emanates a life rich in fish culture. Some islanders fish for a living, some islanders fish for fun, some islanders sell fish in their restaurants and some islanders prepare bountiful fish-rich meals for their families. One thing is for sure, the various Hatteras Island fisheries have an impact on those who are blessed to call this place their home and we love sharing them with our friends and neighbors. While the docks are always abuzz with fishing action, sharing with you is exactly what we aim to do. Good Wahoo fishing continued today. We also saw Blackfin Tuna and Mahi land on the docks including one huge Mahi!

Inshore the Bluefish bite continues along with Spanish Mackerel, Red Drum, and a few Speckled Trout.

Catches slowed down over the weekend but have picked right back up in the last two days!


Offshore boats are getting great catches of Wahoo in the last couple of days, some really nice Blackfin Tuna as well. Mahi is still scattered. We’re also getting reports of a few Sailfish and...

Offshore fishing brought in some good catches of Blackfin Tuna, scattered Mahi, and a few Wahoo.

Inshore boats had nice Bluefish, a few Red Drum, Sheepshead, and Speckled Trout.

Most offshore trips were canceled today due to weather but we did see some Mahi and Jacks land on the dock this afternoon!

Inshore boats had some nice Drum and Bluefish catches.

The heat and water temps aren’t doing anyone any favors right now but the seas calmed down on Monday and we did see a few nice catches coming in. A couple of offshore boats lucked out with limits of Mahi, others with scattered catches. A few Wahoo and King Mackerel in the mix as well.


Another great day of fishing, and the second and final day of the very brief Red Snapper season.

We saw some really nice Snapper catches, plus Wahoo, scattered Mahi, Tilefish, and Barracuda. Some Sailfish reported as well!

Some nice offshore catches this past week! Mahi, Grouper, Tilefish, Wahoo, Red Snapper, Sailfish, and Tuna!

Not as much offshore activity on Sunday as there was Saturday but we did see a solid mix of offshore, wreck, and inshore catches overall this weekend: scattered Mahi, a few Wahoo, plenty of Amberjack and Triggerfish, some Tilefish, Barracuda, Cobia, Bluefish, and Spanish Mackerel.
